I spent last weekend in San Diego, for Robert Hauk's workshop. Robert has a great understanding of body mechanics, fundamentals, and what the woman wants. Here's a pic:

Robert is what I would consider to be a true milonguero. He doesn't care what his dance looks like, as much as how much the woman enjoys it, and he modifies his style to the woman. Robert has been a fixture of Portland tango for years, and studied extensively under Susanna Miller. I saw him the previous weekend at the dances, as a matter of fact, and I consider him to be a great role model.

Tango in San Diego is a bit limited compared to its size, but pretty decent. If you've only got one stop to make, El Mundo del Tango is the place to go on a Saturday night. The proprietor Ive tends to have a bit of a vexing personality, but it's the best game in town.

San Diego itself was enjoyable, and the restaurants around University Heights are great, with some pretty modern fusion of different cuisines. My friend Marius was my host, and being able to find a place to crash is one of the nice things about the tango community. The neighborhood itself is pretty progressive, with a large LGBT contingent, and there seemed to be a lot of interesting culture.

On a different tack, last Monday I had 5 interviews, and it seems like things are going to fall into place in relatively short order. I'm looking forward to seeing where I wind up.
