I'm in Minessota, doncha know?

I've been at a preliminary design review at hotel Sofitel in Bloomington (near Minneapolis) and it's been interesting. The whole place is quite nice, and the rooms are quite nice. The desserts were amazing; I've got some new recipes: opera, trilogy, and a mango passion fruit candy.

Oh, and one of the woman's bathroom is being used for men, since 99.9999% of the engineers at this conference are men. I gotta tell you, it's true, women's bathrooms are better than men's. This one had a plush waiting room, and the mirrors and light fixtures in the bathroom proper looked gilded.

Back in San Diego, at that Saturday milonga I mentioned, I met a nice woman named Mila, who I found out came from Minnesota. After a couple of e-mails, I had some solid info on the tango scene in Minneapolis (www.mntango.org). On Tuesday night I went to part of a lesson by Rebecca Aba and a gentleman whose name I have forgotten. After that we had a practica, which was pretty useful for me. That night, I talked to two people I knew from the memorial day tango festival in Denver. That's one of the things I like about tango in America, it tends to be a rather small world.

At the end of the practica, I danced and chatted with Florencia, who it turned out was teaching a class Wendsday evening. I found out that she had taught one of my teachers, so I decided it would be fun to attend. It was all open embrace sacadas, but I think I can apply a lot of it to my style, and it's possible I might start to become a bit more flexible in my embrace. As an added bonus, she's going to be at the Denver tango festival this Labor Day, as well as in Buenos Aires around the same time that I am (mid December to early January). Now there's yet another connection I've got down there. Here's a headshot of her from http://www.tejastango.com/florencia.html, as you can probably tell, she's got a performance background in Argentina.

Now it's time to finish up the conference, and then go to my dad's 80th birthday bash. After that, I'll go to the late night Milonga this Sunday (11 pm to sunrise). I'm really looking forward to seeing people from St. Louis tango, and other familiar faces.
